Method
- Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Step 2: In a separate bowl, mix the flour and salt. Gradually add this flour mixture to the yeast mixture, stirring continuously until combined.
- Step 3: Add olive oil to the mixture and knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Step 4: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size—about 1 hour.
- Step 5: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Step 6: In a small bowl, mix together the minced garlic, chopped parsley, chopped basil, black pepper, and shredded cheese.
- Step 7: After the dough has risen, punch it down gently and roll it out into a rectangle on a floured surface.
- Step 8: Evenly spread the garlic herb and cheese mixture over the rolled-out dough.
- Step 9: Starting from one end, roll the dough tightly into a log shape and place seam side down in a greased loaf pan.
- Step 10: Cover the loaf with a cloth and let it rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Step 11: Bake the loaf in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Step 12: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
