- Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt. Use a whisk to blend the mixture thoroughly until it is smooth and well combined.
- Step 2: Take your loaf of French bread and cut it into 1-inch cubes. Place the cubed French bread evenly in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Step 3: Pour the egg mixture over the bread, making sure every piece is soaked. Use a spatula to gently press down the bread to ensure it absorbs the mixture.
- Step 4: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator overnight.
- Step 5: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and drizzle the melted butter over the top of the bread mixture.
- Step 6: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven. Bake for 45-55 minutes or until the casserole is set and a golden brown color has developed on top.
- Step 7: Once baked, remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve warm, drizzled with maple syrup and, if desired, a dusting of powdered sugar.
Notes
This casserole is designed to be made ahead of time. If you have leftovers, they reheat beautifully, allowing you to enjoy it again the next day.
