Method
- Step 1: Rinse the cranberries under cold water. Look for any damaged or soft berries, and remove them.
- Step 2: In a large pot, combine the rinsed cranberries and 4 cups of water.
- Step 3: Place the pot on the stove over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil while stirring occasionally.
- Step 4: Once boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer. Allow the cranberries to cook for about 10-15 minutes.
- Step 5: After simmering, remove the pot from the heat and let it cool slightly.
- Step 6: Using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, strain the mixture into a bowl or pitcher. Press down on the solids with a wooden spoon to extract as much juice as possible.
- Step 7: Stir in 1 cup of sugar (or your preferred sweetener) until it is fully dissolved. Taste your juice and adjust the sweetness to your liking.
- Step 8: If you find the juice too strong, add additional water to dilute it to your preferred taste.
- Step 9: Chill your homemade cranberry juice in the refrigerator before serving.
Notes
For a unique twist, try adding a splash of orange juice or zest for a citrusy flavor. If using frozen cranberries, there’s no need to thaw them before cooking.
