Method
- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until fully combined.
- Step 3: Add the cubed French bread to the egg mixture and gently fold the bread into the mixture using a spatula. Allow the bread to soak for about 5-10 minutes.
- Step 4: Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. Pour the French toast mixture into the dish, spreading it evenly.
- Step 5: Cover the baking dish with foil and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight if you want to prepare it in advance.
- Step 6: When you're ready to bake, remove the foil and place the dish in the preheated oven. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
- Step 7: Once baked, allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with fresh berries if desired.
Notes
For best results, use stale or day-old French bread. You can freeze the unbaked casserole for up to 2 months.
